Lightweight abrasion resistant riding jeans, that are 100% waterproof?..oh yes!
They may not be the cheapest riding jeans you can buy, but i’m pretty sure they are the most technical. The Revolution jean from Swiss manufacturer Rokker are just that a revolution. Many protective jeans use a standard or selvedge denim jean that is lined with Aramid or Kevlar sections. Nothing wrong with this, they offer great protection, and i love my Maple Motorcycle jeans. They can however be heavy and because of the liner, quite hot in the warmer months of the year.
The Revolution jeans however are manufactured without a drop lining to offer the protection, the protection is part of the fabric. Rokker turned to the Swiss boffins at Scholler and used their Dynatec fabric, weaved with denim to produce a material than looks an feels like Denim (13.5oz to be precise) but offers high abrasion resisitance. So much resistance in fact that if you crash and put a hole in your jeans, Rokker will replace them free of charge. Now thats standing by your product!
Combined with this construction is a membrane which coats the inside of the fabric, called C_Change also from Schoeller. This ‘coating’ makes the jeans not only 100% waterproof, but also windproof and breathable. Its will take too long to explain the science behind this, so if you are interested click below to read more;
What are they like in real life, well just like normal quality denim jeans. The fit is pretty standard, much like a Levi 501, but with a little more room in the thigh. The D3O armour that is supplied for the knee and hips is unobtrusive, light and flexible as weel as protective. Due to the Dynatec fabric, I would say that they won’t bag and wear in like as much as standard denim, but the upside is they’ll look great for a long time. I found when wearing them in warm tempertures the C_Change material did its stuff and kept me cool. On the day the weather dropped the temp to around 10 degrees C, they worked as promised and retained my body heat keeping the wind out and me warm.
All in all i’m very very impressed with them, some won’t like the style, and some won;t like the price. But if you want a highly technical riding pant, but also want to wear jeans, then these are for you
