A Quick tour of the BikeShed Motorcycle Club HQ…..
A venue in London where you can eat, drink, buy gear, look at mouthwatering custom bikes and even get a sharp Haircut?…..yes such a place exists. The recently opened Bike Shed Motorcycle Club in Shoreditch is a mecca for fans of the so called ‘New Wave’ custom scene. The Bike Shed formed from a group of like minded friends several years ago and its popularity has seen a meteoric rise over the last couple of years. This success has come from a lot of hard work by the team, spearheaded by husband and wife team ‘Dutch & Vikki’. There have now been three Bike Shed Shows in London growing from small beginnings in Shoreditch to 2015’s biggest ever show at Tobacco Dock. The team then went on to push the Bike Shed brand into europe with a weekend show at Le Carreau du Temple in Paris later in 2015.
Enough of the history, lets take a look inside what is quickly becoming my home from home….
As you walk into the front doors of 384 Old Street you are greeted by a Paul Smart Ducati standing guard over the restaurant & bar area. The industrial chic look of the arches is quite striking and is a theme carried through the four, yes four identically sized arches. The Menu is relatively short, but there is plenty of choice, and the quality is outstanding. (anything that involves the chefs 18 hour cooked pork belly is divine) One of my favourite dishes is the Mac & Cheese with Ox Cheek. The range of drinks is extensive, with a really interesting Beer collection that I am working my way through!
Walk on towards arch two, and you pass, Thy Barber where Frank and Pauly can offer a sharp haircut or beardtrim along with friendly banter, plenty of stories and a wee shot of Whisky if you behave yourself. All ably assisted by Head of HR, Lily the Bulldog…
Spin around 180 degrees from this view and you are looking at Arch 2, home of the chill out area and retail shop…..
Grab a drink from the bar and pull up a seat here, such a great place to relax and chat or just watch the world go by..
If you want to browse through a collection of top quality curated motorcycle gear and related goodies, then this is the place for you. Retail guru Gareth is always on hand to offer friendly and helpful advice, and will ably assist you to lighten your wallet…
From the shop you can access Arch 3, which is currently being used to display a growing number of custom bikes.
But be quick, Vikki was less than impressed when it happened, so it might not be around for much longer. You can also take a look around David Beckhams ‘Into the unknown’ Triumph Bonneville…..yes ladies his bottom has been on that seat!
There is also a fourth Arch, which will be used as exhibition/venue space or overflow bike parking. I forgot to mention that if you ride to the Bike Shed, there is plenty of off street parking (bikes only) through the gates under the big neon Bike Shed sign.
So, if you’re into bikes and want a cool place to hangout in London, then I would highly recommend it. If you are NOT into bikes and want a cool place to hang out in London……I still recommend it.
Memberships are available which bring a range of priviledges, but you don’t need to be a member to visit….
See ya there
